It's not often that I am told what to wear for a job. But probably guessing my preference for T-shirt and jeans, my client Jeremy cautiously mentioned that the next commission would require a jacket and tie. Not owning either one of these, I felt I'd better visit my friend Ted Baker in Bristol to get measured up.
Suitably attired, carefully briefed and with batteries charged, I made may way to my appointment with Royalty.
When I arrived at Richmond Village Letcombe Regis, the police sniffer dog was busy chasing a goose across the lawn - his handler said the spaniel was really a well trained gun dog and got a little bit distracted.
The Village staff were all getting ready for the big arrival and seemed pleased to see me again (maybe it was the TB jacket). I was given a careful run-through in preparation. Nothing left to chance. Then a large black Audi driven by His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex KG KCVO arrived and the official tour started.
One of the new residents, Mrs. Howard, was booked in for a visit early during the tour. Mrs. Howard might have been more ready but she appeared to be very surprised when she opened the door of her apartment to find her guest to be Prince Edward. His Highness wasn't on his own and through the door came an entourage consisting of his private secretary, police protection officers and senior staff from Richmond Villages.
Mrs. Howard was not at all intimidated and promptly offered to show her visitor around her stunning luxury retirement home consisting of a living and dining room, patio, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and a very large airing cupboard.
LawsonClarke P.R. commissioned me to cover the launch event for their client Richmond Villages. The brief was to get the shots as quickly as possible and make my way back to LC's HQ for a quick turn-around to the national press. Sure enough, by 5pm the pictures were uploaded and ready to use (check them out on the
LawsonClarke Website).
The day went very well but I'm still not sure about having to wear a jacket and tie. I don't think His Highness noticed my carefully coordinated attire - but that may have been because I blended in so well..
